The picture-perfect facade of '50s-era family life is torn away in Far From Heaven, the stage adaptation of the Oscar-nominated romantic melodrama from director Todd Haynes (I'm Not There, Mildred Pierce). While managing a household that would show-up the Cleavers in its neatness and apparent civility, a Connecticut housewife discovers her husband's secret ... only to seek comfort in a forbidden relationship of her own. Tony Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out) and the creators of the musical Grey Gardens collaborated on this romantic musical that evokes Haynes' original inspiration: the lush, Technicolor brilliance of the films of Douglas Sirk. Now, for its Boston premiere, Scott Edmiston directs a smart and sophisticated production at the SpeakEasy Stage. Learn More

If you love the children's story then you will love the play. The characters come to life and make you believe that the rabbit is as real as in a child's mind. The puppetry is supurb and the story is being told through narration and acting was a great way to honor the book. After the show the Velveteen Rabbit and his friends greeted audience members with hugs and pictures. It was a fabulous event. I love it very much.

I attended with 4 children from the ages of 4-10. I was a a bit apprehensive when I purchased the tickets thinking that the puppetry might be not hold the attentions of the older children...BUT......as other reviewers have said this was SUPERB. ...continued
