From Alan Ayckbourn, the prolific British comic author of The Norman Conquests and Man of the Moment, comes Time of My Life. Following a family dinner at a favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate a woman's 54th birthday, the play explores her marriage, as revealed secrets redefine her relationship with her husband. Meanwhile, separate scenes tell the stories of their older son's future, exploring his troubled marriage and failing business, and their younger son's past, revealing the beginnings of his budding relationship with outrageous hairdresser Maureen. Ayckbourn reveals the entire spectrum of the family experience associated with that life-changing dinner party.

Masterful work by a wonderful cast. David Miller, how do you do it? You find the right people and they never disappoint. The play is a real workout for actors requiring good comic timing AND nuanced emotional portrayals. I remain grateful to this excellent small theater enterprise. We are so lucky to have it.

This play was supreme. The writing was ingenious. The acting was professional and the material, blocking, lighting was better than most of the plays I have spent top $$$$$$ for.

More Information About Time of My Life

Description

First produced in 1992, Time of My Life is the 44th play written by England's most prolific playwright, Sir Alan Ayckbourn. Mr. Ayckbourn confesses to being a "terrible eavesdropper" in restaurants and it is this habit that led directly to the writing of Time of My Life, a play where the audience members are the eavesdroppers, witnessing the traumas of an apparently normal family.

The story revolves around a family dinner at their favorite restaurant organized by successful businessman Gerry Stratton to celebrate his wife Laura's 54th birthday. Their grown sons, Glyn and Adam are also present. Glyn is with his long suffering wife Stephanie; Adam has brought along his new girlfriend, Maureen, an outrageous hairdresser.

It is after the dinner breaks that the play takes off in three different directions simultaneously with all the action taking place in the same restaurant. The parents remain in present time, disclosing secrets which redefine their relationship. The oldest son's story moves forward in time over the course of two years, exposing a troubled marriage and a failing business. The youngest son's story moves backwards in time over the course of two months, revealing the beginnings of a relationship and the joy that comes with falling in love.

David J. Miller directs Maureen Adduci, Michael Steven Costello, Gene Dante, Margarita Martinez, Glen Moore, Evan Sanderson and Ellen Soderberg.
