In this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama set in the Bronx in 1964, Sister Aloysius, the principal of a Catholic school in the borough, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects that young newcomer Father Flynn has sexually abused the school's only black student. As she wrestles with her doubts, she questions an idealistic young nun and the mother of the alleged victim, perhaps changing them forever. The 2008 film adaptation, starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Viola Davis and Philip Seymour Hoffman, earned Oscar nominations for all four actors. One of the most anticipated events at the National Race Amity Conference will be the world premiere of one of the most extraordinary real life stories of race amity in American history. Xernona and the Grand Dragon X is based on the true story of the friendship between civil rights leader Xernona Clayton, who worked alongside Martin Luther King, and the late Calvin Craig, Grand Dragon of the United Klan of Georgia. Their friendship resulted in Mr. Craig publicly renouncing the Klan in a press conference. Ms. Clayton, creator of the internationally televised Trumpet Awards for outstanding African Americans, will also be featured in an Amity Keynote panel during the conference in partnership with Mr. Craig’s daughter, Gail Craig Mayes, and in an Amity Sector Keynote.
