"Midsummer Night's Dream" is a somewhat difficult play, with its plot that makes no sense and a play within the play that makes even less sense. The Annapolis Shakespeare Players chose to overcome these weaknesses by emphasizing character rather than story. Thus, actor after actor gave the broadest interpretation of his/her character, even to the point of being campy. The decision to do that made the performance a success. My friend and I were thoroughly entertained by the sometimes athletically inspired cast. I still haven't figured out the employment of many umbrellas, not only in some of the action but in the set. But who cares? It was lots of fun anyway.
Theatrical haze is used in this production.
The opening night reception begins at 7:00pm and will include a generous assortment of hot and cold savory hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts served buffet style, paired with wine and sparkling punch.
