This was a charming and entertaining event, full of history and classic jazz saxophone tunes, played by a well-rehearsed group of contemporary professionals. Rob Verdi knows his sax, and has a long history of performing, so he puts on an excellent show. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes classic jazz, and who enjoys hearing about the background behind the music. The venue was perfect for this group; there were no bad seats in the house.

Description

Saxophobia brings to the stage Rob Verdi’s rare collection of the most unusual, authentic saxophones ever manufactured. Celebrating the contributions of legendary artists and the songs they popularized, Mr. Verdi and his world-class rhythm trio take you on a melodic voyage through the saxophone’s distinctive history.

From the wispy tones of Plas Johnson slinking along with the Pink Panther Theme, the innovative bebop of Charlie Parker in Scrapple from the Apple, and the warm, lush, breathy tone of Stan Getz and his sensuous version of Girl from Ipanema, Rob Verdi will move you though a superb evening of jazz that is both fascinating and fun.
