More Information About Puppet Stories

Description

October 2 — Puppet show: Evolution
Two characters meet as amoebas and evolve together, sharing adventures as fish, dinosaurs, monkeys and more. Their friendship evolves as well, from conflict to cooperation to comfort you can only feel with an old, trusted friend. Kids who attend will receive a simple "fish" puppet kit.

October 9-10  — Puppet show: The (trash) Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale of the youngest and most beautiful of six mermaid princesses emerges out of trunks and suitcases, coming to life through the use of litter often found on beaches. Puppets, props, and sets made from seashells, found objects and toys create a magical landscape. A lot of actual water and imaginative acting bring the story to life.

October 16-17 — Puppet show: Jack and the Beanstalk
It's the classic tale of "boy outwits giant" told in a way you've never seen before! The puppeteers are in full view and transform their limbs into various landscapes and characters. Jack trades his mother's cow for some magic beans, one of which grows into a giant beanstalk. When he climbs the beanstalk into the clouds, he finds a giant castle with two huge giants inside! How will Jack manage to steal the giants' treasure and escape from the castle?

October 23 — Film shorts: Handmade Puppet Dreams
A collection of nine puppet film shorts for young people ages 2 and up, created by independent artists exploring their craft specifically for the camera.

October 24 — Puppet shows Becoming and Little Bunny Foo Foo / "The Secrets of Puppetry" Workshop
Learn the secrets behind two unusual puppet plays. Evolve's Becoming is a magical winter's tale with characters that glow under blacklight. Afterward, the lights are turned up and audiences are shown how it's done. You'll even get your own simple blacklight puppet to take home! In Little Bunny Foo Foo, WonderSpark's Z. Briggs shows that anything can be a puppet — even your body! Z. will perform her short piece and then lead audience members in a puppet performance of their own.

Puppet Stories seeks to enchant and entertain the youngest theatergoers and their family and friends.

About the Ticket Supplier: The Brick Theater

The Brick and its company, The Brick Theater, Inc., were founded in 2002 by Robert Honeywell and Michael Gardner. Formerly an auto-body shop, a yoga center, and various storage spaces, this brick-walled garage in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was completely refurbished as a state-of-the-art performance space.

The Brick has been home to many critically acclaimed premieres, including Memoirs of My Nervous Illness, Bizarre Science Fantasy, Tupperware Orgy, In a Strange Room (based on Faulkner's As I Lay Dying), Dear Dubya, Fallout Follies, World Gone Wrong, My Year of Porn, Who Is Wilford Brimley?, Jenna Is Nuts, Habitat, Absence of Magic, Assyrian Monkey Fantasy (in two movements), and The Pragmatists.

The Summer Theme Festival Series presented The Hell Festival in 2004, The Moral Values Festival in 2005, The $ellout Festival in 2006, and continues with The Pretentious Festival in Summer 2007. In addition, The Brick has also produced a short-works program called Brick-a-Brac, a collection of holiday-themed one-act plays known as The Baby Jesus One-Act Jubilee, and the hugely successful New York Clown Theatre Festival (the first of its kind in New York in more than 20 years).
