A unique and higly original piece of theatre. Very funny and quirky...the kind of entertainment which appeals to me. The cast works very hard to please and achieves their objective. If you want to take a chance on something different, this is your ticket.

Great acting, directing, and writing. Very enjoyable, in a small, intimate setting. The theater was a bit hot, but the great play made that easy to forgive.

just great! zany, playful, even interesting. a real treat.

A young girl asks her father, where do plastic surgeons come from? What follows is a fantastical romp through pre-civilized Europe, and the medieval art and science of nosemaking. Our hero is Gavin, a young orphan rescued from a dismal existence in the Ivanhoe Workhouse for Criminally Impoverished Boys when he is apprenticed with the local Nosemaker, and eventually becomes one of the finest surgeons in Vienna, cradle of quack medicine. Using innovative skin grafting techniques and cutting edge alchemy, Gavin and his master seek only to do the Work of the Almighty by restoring small appendages lost to rat bites, dueling, and syphilis. But when they are unable to help a powerful and mutilated knight recently returned from the crusades, they find their feet over the fire...literally. Hilarious, subversive, quasi-historical, and thoroughly debauched. . . a fated collaboration between two of New York's most innovative (and troubling) young talents.

The Brick and its company, The Brick Theater, Inc., were founded in 2002 by Robert Honeywell and Michael Gardner. Formerly an auto-body shop, a yoga center, and various storage spaces, this brick-walled garage in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was completely refurbished as a state-of-the-art performance space. The Brick has been home to many critically acclaimed premieres, including Memoirs of My Nervous Illness, Bizarre Science Fantasy, Tupperware Orgy, In a Strange Room (based on Faulkner's As I Lay Dying), Dear Dubya, Fallout Follies, World Gone Wrong, My Year of Porn, Who Is Wilford Brimley?, Jenna Is Nuts, Habitat, Absence of Magic, Assyrian Monkey Fantasy (in two movements), and The Pragmatists. The Summer Theme Festival Series presented The Hell Festival in 2004, The Moral Values Festival in 2005, The $ellout Festival in 2006, and continues with The Pretentious Festival in Summer 2007. In addition, The Brick has also produced a short-works program called Brick-a-Brac, a collection of holiday-themed one-act plays known as The Baby Jesus One-Act Jubilee, and the hugely successful New York Clown Theatre Festival (the first of its kind in New York in more than 20 years).
