Though the fashion and barb-filled dialogue of 1930s comedy Private Lives reveal it to be a play of a different time, the easily-recognizable characters and familiar romantic folly make it seem a creation of modern day. We see the same male-female tug-of-war on our TV and movie screens today, but rarely done with such wit and fun. Divorced couple Amanda and Elyot have both remarried and are honeymooning in France -- at the same hotel. Upon discovering each other on a shared terrace outside what turns out to be their adjoining rooms, they begin to rethink their new marriages and rekindle their old passion. The couple flees to Paris, where love quickly leads to a familiar hatred, and bickering ensues. And just when things seem messy enough, the jilted spouses arrive, the argument gets more heated and passion leads to an unexpected new romance.

Not a great play. Most of the actors did a fine job. The direction was good as well. A bit strange to hear a baseball game going on outside the theatre but the theatre was nice.

The plot was predictable and not very good. But GREAT acting.

Bad Coward, in my humble opinion, is second only to bad Checkov as reasons to quit the theatre. Noel is really hard to pull off. They did a fine job. I think an instrument was broken because the unit kept flashing on and off, and even still I enjoyed myself. Lovingly acted and relished. Beautiful costumes!

Delightful evening. Quick wit of Noel Coward captured by some stellar
actors who somehow got the essence of an era that never was.
