In Richard Greenberg's 2003 Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning drama, Darren Lemming, the handsome and talented star center fielder for the New York Empires, makes the matter-of-fact announcement that he's gay, and is faced with a response from his teammates and fans that seems totally out of left field. But meanwhile, his declaration emboldens his closeted accountant to come to terms with his own sexuality. Would You Settle? Productions approaches the play from a new direction, using one male and one female director to provide a more complex perspective into the various emotional layers of the story.

Very good production of a difficult play. The lead guy playing Kippy was very good and handled his scenes very well. It's a very wordy part and he had complete command of it. The other actors with major speaking parts all handled the comedy and drama effectively and believably. The only difficultly was the diction and speed at which the actor who played Mason Marzac delivered his lines. He talked very fast, which was fine for certainly scenes and situations, but you couldn't understand him during much of it. People around me were definitely commenting on that. But overall the play was a triumph for such a new, small company. I hope they continue.

In general this theater puts on some terrific productions, however, I would rate this an overall just good. The actor in the role of Matt needed to slow the dialog down. He need to savor his words. The actor playing Mars, just plowed through his lines, it seemed like he was in a hurry to finish. He was not really interacting with Darren, just spouting out his lines. There was no passion from some of the other actors in this production and some of the actors, Martinez and Rodriquez just seemed to "hang out."

The script was all over the place and tough to figure out at times. Many of the performances were stiff and didn't generate real empathy for the characters. Overall the production had a very amateur feel to it. I left with really no emotional impact from the script or the performances. The first act, at 90 minutes was far too long.

The acting was pretty bad. It felt like a high-school production. The story was all over the place; it tried to cover too much information. The first act lasted one and a half hours; way too long. The nudity was excessive and unnecessary. I wasn't offended, I just didn't think that it added to the story at all. We left at intermission.
