The disco-fueled interactive dance party known as The Donkey Show, very loosely inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, puts you smack in the middle of the action in a funky lounge setting. Featuring two full bars and a dance floor, the Diane Paulus-created wonderland was inspired by Studio 54 in its heyday, when celebrities and art icons would mix and mingle with kids from Queens, and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack would be shaking the speakers. While you and the rest of the audience drinks, dances to disco classics or just checks out the action, the motley crew of characters in this glammed-up, sex-fueled version of Shakespeare's play re-enact the hilariously chaotic tale of a magic elixir that wreaks havoc at the nightclub. But it's mostly just a cool boogie-filled bash. Learn More
Quotes & Highlights
- "Multiply the mouthy, flesh-jiggling early Bette Midler by one hundred, five her the super-plus-size figure and fashion sense of Divine, the John Waters Diva, and the manners of a Flintstone, and you've got a rough approximation of Bridget Everett." --New York Times
- "Wynona Judd meets Melissa Etheridge, via the local bar floozy, on a rocket ship out of Twin Peaks." --The Village Voice
