The Donkey Show: A Midsummer's Night Disco, Theatrical Dance Party
- Full Price:
- $25.00
- Our Price:
- $12.50
The disco-fueled interactive dance party known as The Donkey Show, loosely inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, puts you smack in the middle of the action as the funky lounge setting, featuring two full bars and a dance floor, also serves as the show's stage. The Diane Paulus-created wonderland was inspired by Studio 54 in its heyday when celebrities and art icons would mix and mingle with kids from Queens, and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack would be shaking the speakers. While the audience drinks, dances to disco classics or just checks out the action, the motley crew of characters in this glammed-up, sexed-fueled version of Shakespeare's play re-enact the hilariously chaotic tale of a magic elixir that wreaks havoc at the nightclub. About the Ticket Supplier: The Pub Theater
Pub Theater Company (PTC) is a relative new comer to the famous Chicago comedy scene. However, in three short years PTC has managed to carve out a significant portion of the Chicago comedy market, surpassing most veteran theaters by using a mix of well-crafted shows, relentless and intelligent marketing, surprising business savvy, and careful attention to their customers and market. Much of this attention has been devoted to PTC's flagship show, Bye Bye Liver, now in its third year.
Pub Theater Company has its origins in Nashville, TN, and a group called NASNNIP (not always Shakespeare, not necessarily in the park). NASNNIP was founded by Byron Hatfield, Joshua Dunkin, and Mike Barton, all of whom later moved to Chicago in 2002 and 2003 to attempt to break into the huge comedy scene there. While Joshua Dunkin and Mike Barton studied at Second City and started a comedic band, Byron Hatfield continued to quietly produce increasingly successful shows until, in Sept 2007, he asked Dunkin and Barton to reteam for what he felt would be a hugely successful play titled Bye Bye Liver. The trio reunited and the show went on to become a Chicago staple and the foundation for BBL Productions and its public face, The Pub Theater Company. Hatfield and BBL Productions are now the Executive Producer for the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts and, in October of 2008, built out a brand-new cabaret within the CCPA to expand their producing capabilities. Pub Theater Company now produces eleven shows in 2 cabarets and by June had 15 shows running simultaneously, with Bye Bye Liver continuing to grow and sell out 4 shows a week.
