The long-running NPR show Car Talk -- hosted by legendary (real-life) mechanics Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers -- provides the inspiration for the hilarious new musical comedy Car Talk: The Musical!!! at Central Square Theater. A co-production of Underground Railway Theater and Suffolk University, the show was written by Suffolk faculty member Wesley Savick, with original music by Michael Wartofsky. In it, Rusty Fenders, the hapless owner of a lemon '93 Kia, falls in love with Miata C. LaChassis. She guides him to the Emerald Garage, home to the Wizard of Cahs (portrayed by the recorded, heavily accented voices of Click and Clack themselves). Like the radio show, it's a romantic comedy about being in love with your car -- and so, so much more.

So lets get the big picture out of the way-- I enjoyed myself at this production of Cah Talk. There were a number of times the production got big laughs and I was entertained for sure. Details? The acting was at a much higher level than the script. Acting, dancing, singing were first class. The material: The best songs were take offs of Broadway tunes from West Side Story, The Sound of Music etc, that were quite cleaver. Otherwise the story line was unclear at times and there were several slow spots.

Being a Tappit brothers fan for years this was extremely funny.

The dancing, the music, the parodies were great!

Very funny and witty! At times it did feel somewhat drawn out, but I enjoyed the way many of the songs were parodies of other well-known musicals and I also liked the "Wizard of Oz" central theme. Overall, I would recommend this musical to those who are fans of "Car Talk" and musical theater.
