Witness all the antics of America's favorite dizzy redhead and her Cuban crooner hubby as beloved '50s sitcom I Love Lucy is transformed into a live musical. Step back in time onto the Desilu soundstage where a charming host will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the latest hi-fi technology that makes this new thing called "television" possible. Then, the show starts, and Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel get up to their side-splitting antics in the familiar cozy surroundings of their New York apartment building and at the famed Tropicana Nightclub, where The Ricky Ricardo Orchestra delights with "Babalu" and other Cuban dance numbers. In between scenes, the Crystaltone Singers will perform live advertising jingles from the show's newest sponsors (Brylcreem, anyone?) in perfect '50s-style harmony. This is your chance to be a member of the studio audience at the taping of two classic I Love Lucy episodes -- "The Benefit" (Lucy agrees to get Ricky to perform in a benefit for her women's club, as long as she is the star of the show) and "Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined" (drops from the eye doctor make Lucy's vision blurry just as she's about to have a jitterbug audition for a movie role). - “24-Hour Play Festival is something you should keep an eye out for.” --Portland Mercury
FV Productions under the direction of Faith Verrill will lock several actors and playwrights in a theatre for 24 hours of time to create four short plays. A performance of the plays will occur the last two hours of the creative process. This night of one act plays will be performed one night only.
The 24’s under the direction of Faith Verrill began in Portland Oregon with CoHo Productions and after six successful productions Ms. Verrill took her 24’s to Boston at the Boston Playwrights Theatre on January 8. The creative process and performance was such a success that Ms. Verrill is bringing it to the Durrell Theatre in Cambridge. Actors will meet on March 13 in the evening and be randomly cast by the playwrights who will pull their names out of a hat. Each playwright has a limited amount of time to write their one act play. The entire ensemble will stay up for the entire creative process and place lights, sound cues, and limited costumes in each production. At the last two hours of the creative process FV Productions will present the one act plays to a live audience. The birth of the one act plays will be seen for the first and last time.
