Chanticleers Theatre Presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Full Price:
$24.00
Our Price:
$12.00

The quirky world of middle-school spelling competitions takes center stage in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a hilarious, Tony Award-winning musical about six awkward would-be spelling champions and their even less well-adjusted parents. Staged by award-winning director Sue Ellen Nelsen, Chanticleers Theatre's new production of this Broadway hit features a delightful cast and loads of laughs, as the musical numbers and polysyllabic words fly. Who will win -- and who will learn the valuable lesson that winning isn't everything? And can you use "capybara" in a sentence? The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee spells fun for all (though some mild references to adult topics may not be appropriate for very young audience members). Learn More

This was a great night of entertainment that I could relate to as well as the other "seniors" that attended this musical. The audience loved the show tremendously. The 3 women and 2 men were very good performers, that although not possessing the best of voices, still did an excellent job with all the songs. The skits were so "right on" detailing all the stages of growing older graciously and not so graciously. I would recommend this musical to any age: the young, to see what they have to look forward to; the middle aged, for them to see what they are starting to experience; and the older ones, like me, who can relate hilariously to what we are experiencing right now. Good Grief! It was great. The theater if a nice little one without a bad seat in the house; during intermission they provided a great assortment of cookies, punch, water and coffee; there was a jar if you were so inclined to throw in a buck or two, but there was no pressure. That is nice and friendly. Go next time it comes to town.

Cute show with very clever song lyrics, good music, pianist is particularly fantastic, peppy change of scenes to the typical aging scenarios in a variety of settings. Some singers are stronger than others, but overall, it was a very enjoyable evening out at the Chanticleers. Good snacks at opening night reception.
