Picasso at the Lapin Agile is a play about Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso that just so happens to have been written by the comedian Steve Martin (Saturday Night Live, The Jerk). In the play, Einstein and Picasso meet on October 8, 1904 in a bar called the Lapin Agile in Paris. The two are on the verge of amazing ideas (Einstein's Theory of Relativity and Picasso, his Les Demoiselles d'Avignon) and end up debating, along with several other characters, about the value of genius and talent. Martin himself told The Observer that the play attempts to explain, in a light-hearted way, "the similarity of the creative process involved in great leaps of imagination in art and science." The Salem Players community theatre performs this lost classic. Learn More
