Ten girls live alone in Wabansia swamp, depending on each other for protection and strength. But what lies outside of the mist-shrouded bog? When the oldest of the group goes searching for answers, she comes face-to-face with her family's past, as well as the mysterious witch who haunts the swamps. Fantasy, folklore and reality blend together as the truth is revealed, lying in wait under the soft, wet peat of the marsh.

An excellently produced and acted dark fairy tale. Not as dark as Grimm's, but it would require serious rewrites from Disney to make it to the big screen.

The puppets worked well and while my daughter (age 9) found them to be perfectly fine, I thought they were a little creepy ... in the right way.

Big question was the suitability for children. The venue took some time explaining that it might be too intense and explicit for my daughter, but she was fine and really enjoyed it. Unsure if this makes me progressive or just a bad Dad, but the hardest thing I had to explain was why the play was called '10 Virgins' and not simply '10 Sisters'.

Anyway... worth seeing for sure.

Inspired by classical fairy tales and folklore, 10 Virgins examines the roles of storytelling, magic and gender in defining who we are. Through a blend of live action and stunning puppetry, it tells the story of Märchen, the eldest sister, and her quest for truth. A trunk full of old stories tells the girls how to properly live their lives, but with the help of Jenny Greenteeth, Märchen begins to question such notions. Will the answers she finds set her free, or will the knowledge she gains weigh her down even more? Balancing whimsy, spectacle and pathos, 10 Virgins deftly explores what it means to find our way in the world, and what consequences come from the paths we choose.
