Members Who Went Said:An excellently produced and acted dark fairy tale. Not as dark as Grimm's, but it would require serious rewrites from Disney to make it to the big screen.

More Details About This Event: Written by Laura Jacqmin
Directed by Russ Tutterow Inspired by classical fairy tales and folklore, 10 Virgins examines the roles of storytelling, magic and gender in defining who we are. Through a blend of live action and stunning puppetry, it tells the story of Märchen, the eldest sister, and her quest for truth. A trunk full of old stories tells the girls how to properly live their lives, but with the help of Jenny Greenteeth, Märchen begins to question such notions. Will the answers she finds set her free, or will the knowledge she gains weigh her down even more? Balancing whimsy, spectacle and pathos, 10 Virgins deftly explores what it means to find our way in the world, and what consequences come from the paths we choose. About Chicago Dramatists: Chicago Dramatists is a professional theatre, dedicated to the development and advancement of playwrights and new plays. The primary goal is to discover, develop and promote the new plays and playwrights that will contribute to the established theatre repertoire, and enrich the lives of future theatre audiences. The organization provides both beginning and established playwrights opportunities to expand their professional affiliations, showcase their work to the theatre marketplace, and collaborate with actors, directors, dramaturgs and audiences during the creative process. From first draft to final product, writers are exposed to audience responses to their work, critiques and support from peer playwrights, and administrative and artistic leadership from Chicago Dramatists' staff. About Chicago Dramatists: Chicago Dramatists is housed in a completely modern, intimate theatre in an historic commercial building from 1888 in Chicago's River West neighborhood, immediately northwest of the Loop. Designed by the Chicago Architectural Assistance Center in 1988, the facility contains a fully equipped, air-conditioned, 77-seat theatre, a lobby-gallery, classrooms, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, and a brand new set of street-front offices and lounge—all wheelchair accessible. |
