Set in the Bronx, this bittersweet story explores the complexities of relationships between husbands and wives and parents and children. A Catered Affair centers around a couple who must decide whether to spend their life savings on the family taxicab company or to celebrate their only daughter's marriage with a lavish ceremony, providing her with the joyful wedding they never had for themselves. This production is based on the beloved 1956 Bette Davis film and features a melodious, '50s inspired score, A Catered Affair is a beautiful exploration of the resilience of love.

Her Naked Skin: Compelling Drama of Illicit Love, the Right to Vote

Full Price:
$30.00 - $36.00
Our Price:
$16.00 - $19.00

Shattered Globe Theatre presents Her Naked Skin at Stage 773. Set against the backdrop of England's women's suffrage movement in 1913, this electrifying drama by Rebecca Lenkiewicz focuses on the love-affair between two British women, one a married aristocrat and the other a young working-class seamstress, both battling for the right to vote. After meeting and discovering their common bond, they embark on a journey of self-discovery --both political and personal -- that's fraught with danger. The show covers big themes and an even bigger landscape, depicting more than 30 locations and more than 40 characters to tell the story of this historic moment in time from a very personal perspective. What an interesting adaptation of a rather unhappy story. But here it actually comes across as a vignette of life in America in the 1950s.

Well sung especially Rebecca Finnegan as the mother and worth seeing for her perfomance alone.

Production values are excellent though the sound system could be better. This theater space at Stage 773 is notorious for swallowing sound.

I recommend this production for lovers of musical theatre perfomances that are small, intimate, nostalgic and well performed.

The music was excellent, and well performed. The story felt a little thin and predictable, but that didn't keep it from being a moving and engaging show overall.

We went to see the play this past weekend and were very pleased with it. The actors were all quite convincing and accomplished. It was an interesting story whose message has not changed with age. Very good!

The singing was wonderful. And the music was too. The story was simple but well acted. The characters were simple but believable. The mosther was well done, albeit ultimately not a nice person-- but conveying important lessons. It comes across as light weight, but I experienced it as much more meaningful than many whose messages are in your face.
