With more than 125 auditioned members in its ranks, the Apollo Chorus of Chicago stands as one of the area's premier all-volunteer choruses. For this performance at the grand Rockefeller Chapel at University of Chicago, Apollo will be joined by the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. The program features two brilliant and monumental sacred works: Mozart's Requiem & Handel's Dettingen Te Deum. A study in contrasts, Handel's piece is joyous and bright, while Mozart's ground-breaking work is dramatic and darker.

The chorus and soloists were good but the soloists should definitely have been mic'ed and the chorus could have probably used a mic as well. We started off in the back half of the chapel (which is the size of a medieval cathedral) and ended up finding our way up to the balcony which was mostly empty, where we could hear much better.

The Handel seemed a bit dull but the Requiem was great.

We enjoyed this event very much. The venue for the concert helped set the tone for the music; you felt like you traveled back to the time the music was first performed.
The music was well performed and we especially appreciated the concert when we found out that most of the musicians volunteered their time and talents.
One change that needs to be made - the Maestro needs to allow a woman who sings tenor into the chorus!
