Love and arson collide in this noir-style comedy from Wishbone Theatre Collective. Penned by noted playwright Adam Szymkowicz (Nerve, Food for Fish), Incendiary finds young fire chief Elise falling for Jake, a detective investigating an ongoing string of mysterious arson incidents. Problem is, Elise just happens to be the one who has been setting those fires. As the couple's lives further intertwine -- and the fires don't stop -- things really start to heat up. Very good script and acting. The tension between brother and sister dealing with a stressful situation was powerful. Great production.

What a lovely and sympathetic slice of life! This play captures the emotional undercurrents that surface in times of family crisis. The honest vulnerabilities of each of the characters are exposed, making us care about and root for each one. Superb acting!

Description

Assisted Living makes its world premiere at Profiles Theatre. Its second production by Deirdre O’Connor follows last season’s long-running hit Jailbait. O’Connor, a 2008 Cherry Lane Project Fellow mentored by Michael Weller and a 2008 – 2009 Lark Playwrights Workshop Fellow, graduated from Hampshire College and Columbia University's MFA Playwriting program, where she received the John Golden Playwriting Award.

Directed by Profiles Artistic Director Joe Jahraus (Fifty Words, Jailbait), the cast of Assisted Living features guest artists Stacy Stoltz (Cyrano at the House Theatre) as Anne and Layne Manzer (The Lady's Not For Burning with Theo Ubique)  as her brother Jimmy. The cast also includes guest artists Jordan Stacey and Shannon Hollander.

About the Ticket Supplier: Profiles Theatre

Profiles Theatre, founded in 1988 by Artistic Director Joe Jahraus, joined shortly thereafter by Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox, was formed as an actor-driven theatre ensemble dedicated to creating provocative and emotionally truthful productions. Passionate about shaping an original vision for new works, they focused on performing World, American and Midwest premieres as well as rarely performed plays. Critically acclaimed hits, such as BLACKBIRD, FAT PIG, GRACELAND and the multiple Jeff Award-winning KILLER JOE, established Profiles as a destination for challenging and edgy theatre. Their unique collaboration with playwright Neil LaBute led the ensemble to perform an entire season of his plays in 2007-2008. Now a Resident Artist at Profiles, LaBute remains an unequivocal artistic influence on the ensemble.

After performing at 4147 North Broadway for more than two decades, Profiles acquired an adjacent theatre at 4139 North Broadway in 2012. Profiles' new theatre, The Main Stage, with its larger seating capacity, increased performance space and higher ceilings, accommodates more ambitious and technically demanding productions. Their long-time venue, renamed The Alley Stage, continues as the home for plays strengthened by a more intimate staging. Driven by an undiminished appetite for creating honest and resonant theatre, Profiles still seeks to present work that illuminates the determination and resiliency of the human spirit.
