The acting was great, the theater nice but the theme of the play was drugs and alcohol, not what the 7 of us were expecting.Written on Apr 02 2012
It was advertised as "hilarious" I don't find anything amusing about drug use.

We chose this event for a girls' night out, but it was a lot darker than we expected. The description lead us to believe that it would be like "Bridesmaids" on stage, but that was so not the case.Written on Feb 24 2012

Quotes & Highlights
- "In the sensational new comedy Bachelorette by Leslye Headland, set during a toxic party on the eve of a swanky Manhattan wedding, bottles of bubbly are consumed with breathtaking dispatch by pretty young things in party dresses in this scarifying tale of mean-girl malice and generational malaise. Vivid, entertaining and witheringly funny!” --The New York Times
- "Sinfully funny! Bachelor parties gone wild have gotten lots of stage and screen time. But if Leslye Headland's wickedly comic play is any indication, bachelorette parties are more fun!" --New York Post
- "Leslye Headland's writing has been compared to fellow playwright Neil LaBute, and it's easy to see why. Her play Bachelorette has a darkly comic and brutal view of interpersonal relationships and their bad behavior is strangely compelling!” --TheaterMania
Description
Bachelorette premiered at New York’s Second Stage Theatre Uptown in July 2010 where it enjoyed a sold-out extended run. Leslye Headland, a Los Angeles-based playwright and screenwriter, wrote and directed the Seven Deadly Plays series, which premiered at the IAMA Theatre Company in Los Angeles. Headland directed and adapted the film version of Bachelorette, which was shot in New York City last summer. The film, starring Kirsten Dunst, premiered as part of the Sundance Film Festival's out-of-competition screenings in January 2012.
"I had this idea for writing a cycle of plays on each of the seven deadly sins,” said playwright Leslye Headland. “I was particularly interested in the shifting morality of people in their late twenties because it is a time when people are dealing with so many different competing standards of behavior. With Bachelorette I wanted to look at female drug abuse and female gluttony. I placed the story at a wedding because I realized a lot of what underlies party seeking behavior is self-pity. Where are women most self-pitying? It's probably other people's weddings. That’s probably the height of when women feel sorry for themselves - when one person is being celebrated and moving into adulthood and everyone else is just miserable."
Directed by Profiles Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox, the cast of Bachelorette includes Profiles’ ensemble member Eric Burgher (A Behanding in Spokane, Kid Sister) along with guest artists Hillary Marren, Linda Augusta Orr, Rakisha Pollard, Amanda Powell and Adam Soule.
About the Ticket Supplier: Profiles Theatre
Profiles Theatre, founded in 1988 by Artistic Director Joe Jahraus, joined shortly thereafter by Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox, was formed as an actor-driven theatre ensemble dedicated to creating provocative and emotionally truthful productions. Passionate about shaping an original vision for new works, they focused on performing World, American and Midwest premieres as well as rarely performed plays. Critically acclaimed hits, such as BLACKBIRD, FAT PIG, GRACELAND and the multiple Jeff Award-winning KILLER JOE, established Profiles as a destination for challenging and edgy theatre. Their unique collaboration with playwright Neil LaBute led the ensemble to perform an entire season of his plays in 2007-2008. Now a Resident Artist at Profiles, LaBute remains an unequivocal artistic influence on the ensemble.
After performing at 4147 North Broadway for more than two decades, Profiles acquired an adjacent theatre at 4139 North Broadway in 2012. Profiles' new theatre, The Main Stage, with its larger seating capacity, increased performance space and higher ceilings, accommodates more ambitious and technically demanding productions. Their long-time venue, renamed The Alley Stage, continues as the home for plays strengthened by a more intimate staging. Driven by an undiminished appetite for creating honest and resonant theatre, Profiles still seeks to present work that illuminates the determination and resiliency of the human spirit.
