Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees: Mariano Rivera Fathead Day
- Full Price:
- $32.00 - $100.00
- Our Price:
- $16.00 - $50.00
The New York Yankees take on the Cleveland Indians at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and if you're a Mariano Rivera fan you'll want to make sure to get there early. The first 18,000 people through the gates will get a Mariano Rivera Fathead to decorate their wall. The Yankees have come on strong this season, keeping a firm hold on their position at the top of the league. They are fielding a formidable bullpen that has shut down batter after batter all season. On the offensive side, heavy hitter Robinson Cano and cleanup man Curtis Granderson drive in the runs that ensure the win. The Indians are perennial playoff contenders and they're currently at the #2 spot in the AL Central Division. They will be looking for a way to slow down Cano and keep the score low. Both teams excel in tight games, so it could be anyone's day. Learn More

Written on Jul 16 2012Excellent event. Game was fantastic. My 14 year old grandson attended, he is a basketball player.
Written on Jul 16 2012Nice entertainment for the children. The children enjoyed it.
Written on Jul 16 2012The basketball part itself (which, after all, this is about, right?!) was exciting to watch, especially for the 5 kids (ages 4-9) who we had with us. They loved the slamdunks, alley-oops, and other fancy-shmancy plays by the players. Honestly, however, the constant individual showboating, lack of foul calls by the refs (to keep the game moving), and overall deviation from a purely technical basketball game, including the lack of passing and shooting plays, were drawbacks for my husband and me. It is a very "scrappy" form of basketball, nothing like an NBA game. Plus, Shannon Brown's team was so outmatched by the Ball-Up team that it made the game not competitive - it was more an exhibition of each player's individual skills against his respective defender as they went 1-on-1.
Why less than 5 stars?
(1) The venue (Malcolm X College's gym) was very uncomfortable. The bleachers are very narrow seats, so we had people's knees in our backs and no room for our knees because of people in front of us. We are not large people either - but we were surrounded by them, so it was very uncomfortable seating.
(2) There is no food or drink available except drinks in vending machines. We expected that they would be selling concessions, so our kids were very hungry.
(3) The game was publicized as starting at 6:00 p.m. When we got there half an hour before gametime, we were told that the game was now 7:00 p.m. That was especially aggravating since we had 5 young kids in tow, and what are they supposed to do for 1.5 hours?
These are the things that made me rate the event as less than 5 stars, but again, if I were evaluating it purely on the basketball game itself, I would give it 5 stars based on how much the kids loved it.
