Known as "the company of firsts," Joffrey Ballet was the first dance company to perform at the White House, the first to appear on television, the first to appear on the cover of Time magazine and the first to have a major motion picture based on them (Robert Altman's The Company). Experience this must-see dance company's innovative dance work live as they present Stories in Motion, a trio of works from three exciting contemporary choreographers. Works include Balanchine's Prodigal Son, based on the biblical tale of sin and redemption from one of the greatest choreographers of all time. Antony Tudor's masterpiece Lilac Garden explores the conflicting emotions of a young woman who's trapped by the strictures of Edwardian culture and forced to give up the young man she loves. Stories in Motion also features the Joffrey premiere of RAkU, in which Ukranian-born choreographer Yuri Possokhov uses the burning of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto as the point of departure for a story of love, treachery, separation and tragedy. A combination of orchestral pieces by the Boston Pops, orchestral pieces with female vocalist and orchestral pieces with vocal group Rocapella. Performed Boston Pops pieces that are well known and Christmas songs that, for the most part, are common traditional ones. Music was excellent, and combination of strictly orchestral pieces with others that included vocalists was a nice combo. Excellent performance.
