Behind the larger-than-life Man of Steel was Jerry Siegel, a real-life young Jewish man with an active imagination. Together with artist Joe Shuster, Siegel co-created Superman -- one of the most enduring superheroes in comic book history. The History of Invulnerability, penned by David Bar Katz (Philip Roth in Khartoum), offers an imagined look at Siegel's struggles as the creative father, and his attempts to retain control of his famous creation as America was drawn into the horrors of World War II. Shirley Serotsky directs this Arthur Tracy "The Street Singer" Endowment production. Learn More

Just returned from seeing "Cabaret" at the Storefront Theatre 66 East Randolph, presented by the-hypocrites Theatre Company (http://www.the-hypocrites.com/node/3). Directed my Matt Hawkins, and featuring a stellar cast, it was the most gritty, dark and, I suspect, the most realistic version of that play I have ever seen. Not all musicals have happy endings, and this production will leave you emotionally drained because of man's inhumanity to man. PLEASE don't miss it!Written on Apr 23 2010

More Information About Cabaret
Description
Guest Director: Matt Hawkins
With book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander, Cabaret originally opened on Broadway in 1966, followed by the film version in 1972 and numerous revivals and subsequent productions. The show follows the unlikely romance between cabaret performer Sally Bowles and the American writer Cliff Bradshaw at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, while documenting Berlin’s dramatic political and social transformation in the early 1930s.
Founded in 1997, The Hypocrites create bold productions that defy expectations. By turning theater inside out and redefining the traditional role of the audience, The Hypocrites are recognized as groundbreakers in the world's premiere theater city of Chicago. The company has grown significantly in the past few years, receiving acclaim for The Threepenny Opera at the Garage Space at Steppenwolf, The Hairy Ape produced in association with Goodman Theatre as part of its O’Neill Festival, and Oedipus at The Building Stage. The Hypocrites' most recent sold-out show, Frankenstein, was co-produced with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). The company’s smash-hit Chicago production of Our Town, directed by David Cromer, transferred to Off-Broadway in February 2009 where it has received rave reviews and currently runs open-ended.
