Cantate Domino: Sacred Baroque Cantatas
VOX3 Sings Sacred Baroque Cantatas -- Buxtehude, Schutz & More
The VOX3 Collective, Chicago's finest period musicians and singers, usher in the new year with a selection of sacred baroque pieces from Northern Europe. They start the program with vocal works by Heinrich Schütz, Germany's most important pre-Bach composer, and Georg Philipp Telemann, who helped move music from the baroque to the early classical style. One of Denmark's most notable composers, Mogens Pedersøn, follows with Missa quinque vocum
. The organ takes the lead on cantatas by Danish-German composers Dieterich Buxtehude and Nicolaus Bruhns. You'll also hear a variety of pieces composed for the court of Denmark's Christian IV.
