More Information About Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble
Description

The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble (2006) was formed in efforts to share the diverse music of Latin America with a global audience, while also providing a platform to spotlight the passion and skill of some of Chicago's most talented interpreters of Jazz and Latin music. Founded by Nicaraguan born pianist, Darwin Noguera and Mexican born Trumpeter, Victor Garcia, these long-time musical collaborators envisioned an endeavor for Chicago that would follow in the innovative footsteps of the pioneering Dizzy Gillespie United Nations Orchestra, the Paquito d'Rivera Pan-American Orchestra, and the Arturo O’Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center.
The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble’s mission is to develop a fresh jazz idiom that highlights underexposed Latin musical traditions while creating sounds emotionally communicative to audiences of any culture. As an extension of their philosophy of cultural preservation, this ensemble intends on serving students of the music by continuing to offer opportunities in educational outreach, having already collaborated with energetic students at Chicago's Northside College Preparatory High School.
Noguera and Garcia have formed a multi-ethnic group immersed in the sounds of the Caribbean and South and Central America. The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble will serve as an ambassador of Latin Jazz traditions in musical fusion, dance, sound experimentation, and Chicago's energy for musical innovation.
