Navy Pier is always an exciting place, but for one weekend in May it'll be the site of the Chicago Green Festival, the nation's largest and most dynamic sustainability event. You'll have the chance to hear from leaders in the social justice and environmental community, including speakers, entrepreneurs and activists such as former CNBC host Dylan Ratigan, Marianne Williamson, Emmanuel Pratt, Danny Seo, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman, Greg Palast and John Perkins. There's also an organic beer and wine garden featuring exclusive performances from local DJs, as well as yoga classes, cooking demos, a bike-repair workshop, art installations, a unique marketplace featuring the latest and greatest in sustainable products and services and much more. Bring the kids too, and they can get in on the act in the Green Kids Zone. There's so much to see and do that you might want to go both days -- and fortunately your ticket is good for the entire weekend!

I loved how many vendors were available. I loved all the jewelry (Terra natural designs). I will gladly attend again.

I liked this year's Green Festival. I have been attending it for the past few years and was very pleased to see more Black female vendors who had started their own businesses. It was disappointing to see more empty space than in past years. The room was not as full.

This is an amazing event for those interested in green living, and learning about green living. There were many booths with products of all kinds, personal and home improvement; loads of free samples, fair trade merchandise, Women and Children First bookstore, animal welfare organizations, and lunches served by Chicago Diner and Soul Veg East, among others. There were also numerous speakers on several stages, national and local, such as Van Jones,an eco-friendly fashion show preceded by a hip-hop dance concert, a yoga/movement venue so we were able to try out qi gong, zumba, yoga. It has the feel of any street festival, but inside, and all fair trade and green.
On the downside, it was at Navy Pier this year, which means parking is quite expensive, and since the lots were full, we parked in the alternate parking and walked over. Also expensive.
