A Woman's Path: An Absurd Send Up of Spiritual Retreats
- Full Price:
- $10.00
- Our Price:
- $5.00
If you've ever sung "Kumbaya" while burning sage and aligning your chakra by performing yoga on the red rocks of Sedona, you'll see the humor in this playful lampooning of for-profit, soul-bearing, women's retreats. A Woman's Path is more than a retreat for middle-aged women in clownishly tacky home-quilted blazers, it's the last chance at happiness for six disturbed, lost souls. Between arts and crafts, nature walks, horrific bear attacks, accidental lesbianism, fist fights and gallons upon gallons of cheap chardonnay, this weekend retreat turns into a healing journey that's seared into these ladies' memories for eternity. This was one of the worst decisions I ever made. The show is disgusting, though from the title, I guess I should have known. Being billed as the "longest running musical in Chicago" kinda gives you the sense that it might actually be good. It is not. The whole sexual humor thing was lost on me, my boyfriend and his FATHER who we brought to this show - I wanted to kill myself. If I was with friends, I think I still would have been pretty uncomfortable, though I could have at least put up with it. Maybe. And I'm no prude! It just was stupid.I guess I was stupid for going to see it, although, I blame my boyfriend who did not probably read the reviews or the overview before buying tix. Basically, we FAILed with this, big time. If you want to watch people touching themselves and making out with dogs, this show is for you! LOL!Written on May 30 2011

I thought this play was hilarious. If you are too into theather...you may find it kind of weak. However I am not. My boyfriend and I just went for a night out because I saw the play "KinK" here before so I decided to try CoEd prison Sluts. Defenitly wasnt a waste of money...he was dying laughin the whole time. Excellent work :) p.s The bartender is veryyy nice!Written on Nov 08 2010

This was the worst Goldstar event I have ever attended. I was terribly disappointed by the lack of talent exhibited in this "comedy." This play was simply vulgar, with no purpose behind it. I'm sorry, but a woman singing the word "f*$k" does not qualify as entertainment in my book. My boyfriend and I left after the first four numbers. No plot was apparent at that time. You take your chances going to this one. If you're looking to hear foul language and meaningless obsencenities for 2 hours, go for it.Written on May 04 2009

My friend and I went to this show and while a few of the numbers were funny and most of the actors were believable, we were a little creeped out and generally thought the show relied on its vulgarities for easy laughs. We were both left wondering, "How has this show been around so long"?Written on Mar 22 2010
The Annoyance Theatre itself was a great atmosphere and you can go to their website and print off 1/2 off drink coupons. Being able to bring in drinks and set them on the little tables was great. However, a really tall couple decided it would be ok to have a seat in front of my friend who is 4'11". Common decency people.

The flagship show for The Annoyance, Co-Ed Prison Sluts, returns to the stage as the final event in the celebration of the company's 20th Anniversary. The show originally opened in April 1988, and ran every weekend until June 2000, making it the longest-running musical in Chicago — a title it still holds!
Co-Ed Prison Sluts follows the prison's newest inmate, Alice, as she learns the ropes from the other inane inmates including Hamster Man, The Dame, Skeeter, Slick, Henry, and Dr. Bellows and his dog Fluffy. And she learns the number one rule: to fear the dreaded Clown.
With hit songs such as "Hey We're in Prison," "Sh*t, M*ther-F*cker," and "The Dog Is Eating My Hamster Now," Co-Ed Prison Sluts is anything but a family musical, and it's f*cking funny.
See it now, if you've never seen it ... or come back and sing along if you remember the songs.
