Chicago dell'Arte presents its re-imagined take on one of Shakespeare's most-often misunderstood plays with Commedia King John. When Dottore's niece comes to him wanting to know about the Magna Carta, Dottore -- who knows only that the document was signed by King John -- thinks the best way to teach her is by recounting Shakespeare's story of King John for her. Tomfoolery and hijinks ensue as other denizens of San Irreal are enlisted to help tell the story in the only way they can: with much energy, very little comprehension and a whole lot of fun.

I had never been to this kind of "Comedia del Arte" performance before, but I loved it. The cast is so talented and energetic, and the comedy is both broad and literate. It is a fun evening. Lots of easy parking and good restaurants all around. We found a Peruvian restaurant across the street that was great. We had also never been to The Den, which has several theaters, a nice refreshment bar and lounge, and very welcoming staff. Best theater we've been to in months!
