Jim Morrison Honored at Drinking & Writing Festival 2013
This year's Drinking & Writing Festival
focuses on the iconic lead singer of the Doors, Jim Morrison, who was also a published poet. Fill up on fascinating stories about the rock legend and his writing at a presentation by Northwestern professor Bill Savage, and a talk by Steve Krakow, from The Secret History of Chicago Music
, and Paul Durica from Pocket Guide to Hell tours. Try special beers from Chicago breweries and "poem-oke," and sign up for the "2 Drink Minimum Writing Contest," where participants are given five minutes to write about a theme related to Jim Morrison or the Doors. Late '60s and early '70s costumes are encouraged.

The Doors have a special connection to Chicago: Ray Manzarek, founding member and keyboardist for the Doors, is from the South Side of Chicago and graduated from DePaul University.
