Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard (Buried Child, True West, Fool for Love) penned this twisted, black-humored tale about an unlucky cowboy whose fading gift for dreaming horse-race winners has landed him in the forced company of a pair of low-level thugs, eager to please their crime boss. Shepard directed the premiere of his play in London, which starred Stephen Rea and Bob Hoskins. Carlo Lorenzo Garcia directs this production for Chicago's Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company, now in its 27th season.

Intense Day-in-the-Life Drama The Brig, Set in Marine Prison

Full Price:
$25.00
Our Price:

Mary-Arrchie's innovative staging of this challenging drama offers an up-close look at one day in the life of Marines serving time in a dehumanizing military prison. Based on author Kenneth H. Brown's own incarceration in 1957 Camp Fuji, Japan, The Brig explores the inmates' psychological reactions to their intense environment, creating an equally visceral audience experience. The play was first produced by the avant-garde Living Theatre in 1963, which also staged an Obie-winning 2007 revival of the work. Learn More

This show was a little strange. We loved seeing Skin Tight recently, but this show was just so-so. Would have been nice to know that the entrance was literally "a hole in the wall". We were five minutes late as we didn't see the entrance on our first pass down the street.

Well acted but very peculiar story. I didn't understand the point here.

The entire cast was a very interesting group of guys. They all held a piece of the play that seemed to bring it into a success. We enjoyed ourselves and would return for more...........
