A Woman's Path: An Absurd Send Up of Spiritual Retreats
- Full Price:
- $10.00
- Our Price:
- $5.00
If you've ever sung "Kumbaya" while burning sage and aligning your chakra by performing yoga on the red rocks of Sedona, you'll see the humor in this playful lampooning of for-profit, soul-bearing, women's retreats. A Woman's Path is more than a retreat for middle-aged women in clownishly tacky home-quilted blazers, it's the last chance at happiness for six disturbed, lost souls. Between arts and crafts, nature walks, horrific bear attacks, accidental lesbianism, fist fights and gallons upon gallons of cheap chardonnay, this weekend retreat turns into a healing journey that's seared into these ladies' memories for eternity. The actor playing Pepper LaRue kept screwing up his lines. It was cute, but sooooooooooo over the top. Maybe I didn't drink enough before the show?!?!Written on Mar 12 2010

This was really cool. I loved the script. The actors did an awesome job with their characters. For this being a small theater it was no small production. I really enjoyed it. I want to see it again because the dialog was hilarious and wish i could rewind it....Thanks for a good show. :)Written on Feb 19 2010

More Information About Glitter in the Gutter
Description
Get your wig caps and stilettos on for The Annoyance Theatre's debut Drag Queen Dramedy “Glitter in the Gutter.” Inspired by John Waters, “Designing Women” and Dionne Warwick, “Glitter in the Gutter” offers a fresh look at drag culture while paying R-E-S-P-E-C-T to its roots. Presented in the style of a live musical sitcom with loads of sass and drag queen drama, “Glitter in the Gutter” explores what is fake and what is “realness.”
Living in a crummy apartment with windows that look out into trash-filled alleys, Pepper LaRoo and Velveeta Fitzgerald are inseparable drag queen roommates that dream of hitting it big. When things start looking up for one of them, their relationship is put to the test.
Directed by Kellen Alexander and starring Wes Perry and Seth Dodson, a shorter version of “Glitter in the Gutter” was performed last October as part of The Annoyance’s Triple Feature Series. All three collaborators are veterans of the Chicago comedy scene and perform regularly at iO, The Annoyance, Lakeshore Theatre, and The Playground.
