I loved the book and the movie and I figured this would be a big contradiction to what they both stood for, but I love musicals!! Some of the songs were good and some were pretty bad. The best part of the show was the guy who played Dick, he was great! It is a very small theatre and if you did sit off to the side, you couldn't see everything. They are a not-for-profit so I'm not going to get too picky about that because they don't have a lot of money, but some risers would have been nice. But they had a bar, so that was a nice surprise. All in all it was ok.Written on Oct 13 2009

I have to say I was disappointed. We were seated so far to the side that a good part of the show was unseen. If I had paid full price I would have asked to be moved or come another night. But since it was just $12. I can't believe a small theater would consider this a good place to seat people. There was plenty of room elsewhere. A missed opportunity for the company because you now have 5 people that wouldn't recommend seeing a show there. The play itself was cute. Some missed lines, the main character's voice is not strong and it was a spot on imitation of Jack Black. The songs were great and there were some laugh-out-loud moments. The scene where they rewound and did it different ways was BRILLIANT. The guys who played Dick and Ian were great. The best girl friend did a good job too. My only other criticism is that its over 2 1/2 hours long! They should cut some of it b/c that is not necessary.Written on Aug 14 2009
The check in was disorganized. There was a lady at a table. I went up to it and some guy said, "is this a line" I said "I guess so I'm waiting to check in" then he went in front of me, flashed a bis card and went in. Then she asked if I was with him and I said no that I bought tickets. She fumbled around a bit, asked for help, and then after spelling my name three times found me. Then they gave us directions to our table that was wrong. The woman inside directed us to another wrong table. We found it on our own.

We really enjoyed this show--laughing aloud throughout. At the Sunday matinee we attended, it was general admission--the audience sat throughout the theatre and I overheard no complaints. The sound problems mentioned in the Trib review have also been remedied. The performance was especially exciting as we watched various cast members also double on musical instruments. Amusing intimate staging of a fun show!Written on Aug 24 2009

Don't expect "broadway" type talent or performances (or writing). However, if you come in with the expectations that you would have for a small, independant theater group, you wont be disappointed. The male and female leads didn't really have the chops or voices to pull off such demanding roles, but the support is strong enough to boost the show. There's a large cast, and you're bound to find a performer or two in it that you really enjoy. The female support cast is really very good.Written on Sep 11 2009
The first number is really rough, and I thought it was going to be a loooong night, but it picked up steam and ended very strongly.
Unlike the previous reviewer, we thought our seat on the faaar right side was just fine. Didn't miss a thing. It's a very spacious theater, and there are a ton of seating options (tables, rows of chairs, hightop tables, and even bar seating). We took a hightop table and it was nice and comfy and out of the fray.
Important: Take a jacket or sweater. It's FRIGID in there. :)
Drinks: brought in our own starbucks from downstairs. kept us perky for the 2:20 show.
Bathrooms are right out the doors, which is nice.
In the end, well worth the goldstar price. Would have been disappointed if I'd dropped $60 on two tickets through the company site.
Notes to the performers (especilly "ian") we can hear you clear as day while you're chatting backstage (behind the big curtain). Was pretty distracting.
Notes to the Theater Company: I appreciate the financial strains of your performance, but pandering for donations at the door, post show, makes people feel uncomfortable. Not a good idea. There's got to be a better way to get a few more bucks out of people.

Part rock concert and part offbeat romantic comedy, High Fidelity is the fourth production from Chicago’s newest Equity theatre company. High Fidelity is based on the 2000 film starring John Cusack.
