Winner of the 2004 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, Intimate Apparel tells the story of Esther, a middle-aged, African-American seamstress in turn-of-the-20th-century New York who has learned to make ends meet by teaching herself to sew lingerie. After decades of loneliness, Esther finds solace in letters from George, a handsome, young Caribbean man working on the Panama Canal. Enlivened by this potential romance, but burdened by illiteracy, Esther relies on two of her patrons -- a rich white socialite and a prostitute -- to help her compose her letters to George. Intimate Apparel was written by Lynn Nottage, winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Ruined. Learn More

Great production! It drew me into the world of the play immediately and held me there, through all the good & bad! Not the 'happiest' show you'll ever see, but it encapsulates the spirit of the Blues and why we all need them to get through!
