How to Make a Rainbow
is On the Spot's world premiere production about Joseph Cornell, a self-taught American artist who lived most of his life in Queens, just outside New York City, creating box constructions and collages in his basement workshop. You'll travel to New York City during the Worlds' Fair of 1939, the wintry Russian Steppes and Renaissance Florence, Italy, while learning about an original artist whose bond with his disabled brother and his widowed mother, along with his personal interests in astronomy, dance, music, fine art and popular culture, led to his intriguing visions and extraordinary art. Six actors playing multiple roles bring the story of Cornell's life and art to the Greenhouse Theater Center stage.
