It was from far the worst Hubbard serie we have seen. Some of the pieces still need some work. Killian's work was the best even though the piece is tough.
Have been a Hubbard Street fan for years, but this was a very underwhelming series filled with pleasant but very forgettable choreography. And Kilian's piece failed to live up to all the hype instead sucking what little life was left in the audience during each of its excruciating dull 27+ minutes. Ugh.
Attending Hubbard Street's Spring Series was an underwhelming experience. Alejandro Cerrudo's piece is probably his weakest to date (which means it's still a well-crafted if uninspired piece of theatre). Susan Marshall's piece was a good gimmick set to a great (and over used) score by Arvo Part. Terrence Malling's piece lacked originality despite a few brief theatrical gems. As expected, Kylian's piece was the strongest but it too lost its steam after clocking the promised 25 minutes. Perhaps the problems lies not so much with the individual pieces themselves as with the overall program for the evening. More variety in mood and styles is needed next time.

While many contemporary dance peers are single choreographer organizations, HSDC has always been a repertory company, representing numerous choreographers and styles.
