Event Highlights
More Details About This Event: After vocalist Luba Mason released her solo debut CD, Collage, she toured to venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York to much acclaim. Now Mason returns with a concert that includes songs from her new CD, Krazy Love, plus music from some of her Broadway roles and from Collage.
Luba Mason quickly gained notice from her peers and the industry alike. She was tapped by Ruben Blades as a guest vocalist on his 2003 Grammy Award-winning CD Mundo, for which she earned critical acclaim by the Los Angeles Times, who hailed her vocals on the Irish classic “Danny Boy” as “celestial,” and by the Boston Globe, who praised her “soaring soprano.” Legendary rock artist Lou Reed, who Luba covers with her rendition of Reed’s “The Calm Before the Storm,” a post-9/11 commentary, also gives his total props. Luba starred on Broadway in the musical Chicago as Velma Kelly, as well as in Jekyll & Hyde, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (opposite Matthew Broderick), Paul Simon’s The Capeman, Trevor Nunn’s Sunset Boulevard and the Tony-winning The Will Rogers Follies, directed by Tommy Tune. She also starred opposite Val Kilmer in the American premiere of The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. She is no stranger to cabaret, having performed in sold-out shows at L.A.'s famed Cinegrill and Vibrato clubs, New York's Opia and headlined two highly successful nightclub revues at New York's Cafe Versailles. About Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret: Since opening in the fall of 1998, Davenport's has attracted crowds and critical acclaim, thanks to its quality lineup of talent and intimate setting. It is part piano bar, part cabaret with an atmosphere that is decidedly warm and laid-back -- soft wood panels, delicate lighting, and blue velvet curtains line the walls -- that is also quite modern. No posing as Sinatra in here! The crowd is a nice mixture of both young and old who appreciate good music, good drinks, and good conversation. In the Cabaret Room, reservations for all performances are strongly encouraged and a two-drink minimum is in effect. By sharing an evening at Davenport's, you support cabaret artists and artistry in Chicago and across the country. |
