Spence and Marty return to Spence's apartment for a night of sex, but they end up exposing more about each other than simply their bodies in Man Boobs, the darkly comic one-act play by J. Julian Christopher about love, body image, and acceptance. David Zak directs actors Michael Hampton and Rick Heintz in the Chicago premiere of the play which opens Pride Film and Plays' 2012 season. Man Boobs was developed at New York's Public Theater, workshopped at East L.A. Rep and then ran in New York City at The Fresh Fruit Festival in 2010.

Sexy Baby: Tongue-in-Cheek Send-Up of Child Beauty Pageants

Full Price:
$22.00
Our Price:
$11.00

Hell in a Handbag Productions kicks off their 2012 season with the premiere of Sexy Baby. This loving yet delightfully warped "docu-musical" by company artistic director and resident playwright David Cerda takes audiences behind the scenes of the fascinating world of child beauty pageants popularized by such reality shows as Toddlers and Tiaras. With looks, talent and a very pushy mother, Swann Black is the current pint-sized superstar in the child pageant circuit. Swann's mother is determined to see her daughter rise to the top, no matter what it takes to get her there. Follow them and the other colorful contestants -- and their equally colorful parents -- as they navigate the fiercely competitive and surreal world of child pageants. Rest assured that no actual children are used in this production. Learn More

This show was even better than expected. It touched on a lot of issues in subtle ways. I went through a range of emotion and felt connected to the characters. There was more talk about sex than I expected but that wasn't a problem for me. There was also more negative emotion than I expected but combined with the laughter, it made for a thought provoking experience.

Overall I liked the venue but wish there was more space between the chairs.
