A gorgeous show, though I have questions about some of the playwright's choices. The opening monologue was both poignant and funny, exquisitely delivered by Tim Hopper. There are many luminous moments of great power, and the play is a perfect...continued

Excellent writing and uniformly good performances - and beautifully staged. The storyline in the second act could have been a little stronger.

A beautifully written, well-directed play. The set is wonderful. Great casting, great cast; particular standouts were Brenda Barrie, Martha Lavey and Michael Patrick Thornton. Do not go if you need lots of action and drama. This is a quiet...continued

Middleton takes an interesting perspective on everyday interactions that we have all had at some point in our communities. The first half of this show was amazing. The dialog was witty and kept the audience laughing the entire time. John is...continued

Wonderful writing...opening monologue brilliant. First act entertaining, funny, insightful. Looked forward to second act which disappointed. Agonizing dying scene of rasping way too long; Indian rant way too long. Ending a total let down. ...continued

The production was slow and uninteresting. As far as plot goes... well what was the plot? Boring, stale dialogue, if you're intellectually deep enuogh, can be entertaining? Don't waste your money. Though the actors tried their best to breathe...continued

Follows Steppenwolf's current season's theme of private self vs. public self. Good use of space, lighting, sound to present action in variety of settings and times, following the cycle of life from birth to death and everything between....continued

Interesting character portrayal of young woman moving to small town of Middletown and meeting elderly gentleman. Both somewhat lonely in their own ways. Play was well done.

The acting was very good, but I didn't care so much for the story. I wouldn't consider the story deeply moving or poignant but I agree that it is about a small American town and there are some funny lines.

It was quite different from any play my wife and I have ever seen before.

Middletown at the Steppenwolf is an interesting and somewhat slow moving rift on people and small town life. I suppose a similarity to Thornton Wilder's Our Town might be an apt comparison. The plot centers on two main characters - Mary Swanson...continued

Save your money. The first act is cleverly written and well acted. But the second act goes nowhere, the humor is gone, and message hammered home for the 20th time. I guess since I paid half price, and saw half a good play, it was OK :>). But not...continued

The dialogue in the play is at times very fast-paced and extremely witty. The well-known and lesser-known actors all performed quite well, with several actors performing more than one role. As a whole the play is an existential comment about...continued

5 of us went to see this play and we all loved it. It was fun but really made us think about life and death. The acting was wonderful and the set design was great. We attend plays at Steppenwolf on a regular basis and I can honestly say for the...continued
