In 1936, an anti-drug propaganda film called Reefer Madness was released. The movie portrayed the disasters that ensue when some young teenagers decide to try "marihuana" -- otherwise known as the devil's drug. In the 1970s, the film was rediscovered and became a cult classic due to its over-the-top portrayal of the alleged dangers of smoking weed, which include death, destruction, madness and ... jazz. Inspired by the original film, this tongue-in-cheek musical comedy at the Mayne Stage continues the hijinks in an even wackier form, memorializing the melodrama in songs that range from Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes. Don't make a mistake and (puff, puff) pass on this performance. Learn More

Miss Tess and her Talkbacks absolutely entertained both my husband and myself. I thanked her after the show for filling my soul with her music. The combination of blues, country, and swing make her style it's own. I want to see this group again when they come through Chicago next time. The guitarist was amazing, the bass player easily flowed between upright and electric, and the drummer kept it all together. I only wish it had been better promoted. They deserved a full house.
