Written between the World Wars in 1936, British composer Vaughan Williams' melodic plea for peace not only draws from the traditional mass, but also from a trio of powerful poems by Walt Whitman. This stirring cantata is set to be performed by the Masterworks Festival Chorus, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and vocal soloists under the baton of conductor Richard Bjella. The concert also features an appearance by conductor-composer Z. Randall Stroope and the National Festival Chorus, who'll sing some of Stroope's own pieces, along with several hymns and traditionals. Will call ticket pick was super smooth. Grabbed a hot chocolate at Starbucks before the show. Seats were beautiful, near the front with a good view. I love the Symphny Center. The National Festival Chorus was good but lacked some energy; the best part of the show by far was the Yorkville High School Orchestra! THEY were phenomenal. So lively, entertaining, huge swelling sounds, really uplifting.
