Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Avengers) stars in this Donmar Warehouse production of Shakespeare's political thriller Coriolanus, broadcast as part of National Theatre Live, the series that brings the best of British theater to movie screens worldwide. Coriolanus, Rome's greatest warrior, displays a stubborn hubris that spurs him in battle but alienates the common people at home when he becomes a politician. Raised to be a hero by his prideful mother, Coriolanus refuses to compromise, even to save his own life. Exiled from his country, the warrior returns to what he knows best, vowing to take bloody revenge on the people who rejected him. Only the love and conviction of his family can overcome his hunger for vengeance and save Rome from its former hero. This is a screening of the London theater production that was taped for broadcast. - "Funny, touching, and cliff-hangingly suspenseful." --The Telegraph
Though each live broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theater, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the 'best seat in the house' view of each production. Where these cameras are placed is different for each broadcast, to make sure that cinema audiences enjoy the best possible experience every time.
