Nickel and Dimed: Based on Best-Selling Book About Working-Class America
Nickel and Dimed is the stage drama based on the best-selling nonfiction book by author and activist Barbara Ehrenreich. The play follows Ehrenreich's character as she travels across America, taking on various jobs as a waitress, hotel maid, house cleaner, nursing home aid and store clerk while documenting the struggles of low-wage workers. Directed by Dani Snyder-Young, Nickel and Dimed examines the effects of welfare reform on working-class America. Ehrenreich's stories of minimum wage survival earned her praise from the New York Times, which called her "our premier reporter of the underside of capitalism."
