More Information About Noche Tropical: Havana Afro Cuban Ensemble

Description

Let the rhythm move you at Noche Tropical, a night of sizzling live music with free dance lessons and Aguzate DJs.

Bassist Richie Pillot’s Havana is one of Chicago’s best representations of Afro Cuban music. Add another of Chicago’s treasures to the mix, Costa Rican Sonero Franklin Paz, and you have a sizzling combo ready to jump start any dance floor with its deep rumba grooves, transforming descarga (jam) solos, and improvisational singing.

Richie assembles some of Chicago’s best, and sometimes youngest, masters into his ever-changing ensemble. His combination of mastery and uninhibited instinctual playing results in a dynamic burst of musical energy with every song. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to spontaneously create arrangements of tunes on the bandstand. He is Ellingtonian in that the band is his instrument.
