Chicago's River Walk Tours' special summer outing Borgers & Brews adds a stop at the legendary landmark known as the Billy Goat Tavern for a double cheeseburger and beer as part of its popular Windy City excursion. Friendly and knowledgeable guides offer fascinating facts and intriguing stories of the past and present to go along with great views of the city for a fun and entertaining day downtown. Stories and spots associated with the Chicago fire are featured on this tour, along with the visit to the Billy Goat. The Greek-owned tavern gained fame as the Olympia Cafe on Saturday Night Live in the sketch starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as short-order cooks who had "No Coke -- Pepsi; no fries -- chips" and plenty of "cheezeborgers." But you'll also learn about the bar owner's big role in the dreaded curse of the Cubs. Open since 1934, it's played host to politicians, athletes and celebrities alike, including Presidents Bush and Clinton. Learn More

We really liked this. We did not have any idea the Pedway even existed, which sorry to say is a little over 30 years ago. The history lessons taught by the guide were very interesting and it's an excellent mechanism for getting around the city without being outside during our winter months as well as during rainy weather. The pubs which were part of the tour were excellent for us because we most likely wouldn't have visited them on our own. Thoroughly enjoyed this.Written on Feb 06 2012

It was a great idea; however our group was quite rowdy and as a result we barely made it to 3 of the 5 bars and less than a third of the way through the pedway. There were not tables reserved or other arrangements made at any locations. As a result, it took a long time to get drinks and our group was spread across several tables so that the guide was not able to tell stories while we enjoyed the bars. I would have been really upset had I paid full price for this tour. Given that we were on our own at the bars and barely got to hear any stories, I would have almost prefered to explore on my own.Written on Feb 21 2012

I highly recommend the Pedway Pub Crawl. It was an exciting adventure via the Pedway in the area north of Milenium Park & east of Michigan Avenue. Our guide was personable & a wealth of historical information. The tour visited some wonderful bars with ease while avoiding any hints of the winter weather at street level.Written on Feb 15 2012
