Written between the World Wars in 1936, British composer Vaughan Williams' melodic plea for peace not only draws from the traditional mass, but also from a trio of powerful poems by Walt Whitman. This stirring cantata is set to be performed by the Masterworks Festival Chorus, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and vocal soloists under the baton of conductor Richard Bjella. The concert also features an appearance by conductor-composer Z. Randall Stroope and the National Festival Chorus, who'll sing some of Stroope's own pieces, along with several hymns and traditionals. An artist of immense range and insight, Vladimir Feltsman is recognized as one of the most imaginative, versatile and interesting musicians of our time.
