Simply put: In the 18th century, you could not call a man's horse "fat" and get away with it. Young Lucidus, however, wishes the opposite was true in The Coward. Hounded by his honor-obsessed father, Lucidus is pressured into dueling over the equine slight. Not cut out for such sordid stuff -- he's more into entomology and tea -- the young nobleman hires a common criminal to fight in his place ... only to have the scoundrel make a bloody mess of things. A series of duels follows and Lucidus, to his dismay, finds his "fearsome" reputation exceeding his wildest expectations. Though set in the 1790s (sort of), The Coward is a knockout new comedy from Nick Jones (currently a writer for Orange Is the New Black on Netflix). Now Vance Smith directs its Midwest premiere at Theater Wit. Learn More

Great writing, great cast, humorous. Audience comprised mainly of teachers, which I'm not, but was motivated to go because it dealt with our public schools. Unclear to me what I'm supposed to think of each of the characters or how to address this huge issue of the terrible state of the CPS. Thought it played a little into the stereotypical teacher types... although based on the post discussion, it was a very realistic portrayal. Wished it went a little further and made more of a statement.
