<p>Azucena Vega was born in Gijon, Spain and started Asturian folk dancing at age six with Conchita Castro and Xustos Group for Asturian Folk Dancing. </p> <p>Ms. Vega's dance education included Spanish classical, flamenco, classical ballet, modern and jazz. An experienced dancer and 1st soloist she has become a highly accomplished dancer, choreographer, and teacher earning acclaim for her performances around the world. </p> <p>Ms. Vega began with the Angel Pericet Company at age 15. She has performed with Pilar Lopez, Alberto Lorca, Jose Greco, Jose Molina, and the Ballet Espanol de Madrid with director Jose Granero and choreographer Jose Antonio. She has also performed with Antonio Ruiz Soler. </p> <p>Memorable performances include those with Charles Mingus at Carnegie Hall (1976) Frank Sinatra in Las Vegas (1979), the performances on The Ed Sullivan Show (1963 - 1965) and also those with Jose Greco. </p> <p>Ms. Vega founded Soul & Duende Dance Company in Madrid, Spain in 1991. Soul & Duende became incorporated as an Illinois not-for-profit organization in 1994.</p>
