A monarch obscured by the shadows of dementia resolves to retire, and divides his kingdom among his three daughters. The unexpected consequence of losing everything that defines him is shattering, a sobering reminder that even the most powerful can be swiftly undone. Chicago Shakespeare's contemporary production of King Lear reinforces the universality of the family's experience in the face of a parent's decline. Woven throughout the show is the hauntingly melodic music of Frank Sinatra, echoing the memories of Lear's former glory. Chicago Shakespeare Theater founder and artistic director Barbara Gaines directs this inventive staging, which stars local theater legend Larry Yando -- in his 23rd production with Chicago Shakespeare -- in the title role. So well done! FUN for the kids and adults. Some of the humor was meant for the adults....went right over the kids heads, but not offensive in anyway. The sets were good, dancing and singing were great. The donkey was my favorite and amazed at the Asian baby Shrek and baby bear. So cute and talented. Great seats with my Red Velvet membership. Goldstar ROCKS!
