My boyfriend and I signed up for this class. Although it's later than we'd like (9pm - Mon), it's still fun. We like the small class size and the friendly staff. We also like that there is plenty of free parking near the entrance and that the location is easy to find.Written on Mar 02 2010

I signed up for this class with my boyfriend. I signed up with him because I was looking forward to learning swing TOGETHER, not with complete strangers. I understand the idea of constantly rotating partners, but I was very annoyed that I was only able to 'practice' with my boyfriend once the entire night. Not cool. I called the place and while they said it was completely ok if I opt out of the gigantic rotating circle of partners, I didn't want to be the only couple doing that and therefore feel out of place and kind of snobby. Wish I could have gotten my money back since I was disappointed with the setup. If you're single, then I highly recommend it. If you're wanting to dancing with strangers, then go for it. But overall, I felt like I could find some better dance lessons in the city and ones that my partner and I could partake in TOGETHER.Written on Jan 22 2010

It was pretty basic but it was a large group with different levels of previous dance experience so we all had to start from square one. I think that this class will take me where I want to go, though. Everyone was friendly. I did not feel uncomfortable even though I was probably the oldest person there. All ages mingled well.Written on Sep 17 2009

Description
This class is for the true beginner, no experience and no partner necessary. The class will introduce the concepts of leading and following as well as the basic rhythm and turns of 6-Count Swing. The instructors will present the material at a moderate pace, quick enough to keep it moving and slow enough to allow plenty of practice time. This is a series of 4 classes, and you will rotate partners throughout the class.
About the Ticket Supplier: Big City Swing
Julee Mertz discovered the small Lindy Hop scene in Chicago in 1997. Instantly hooked by the music, the sense of community and the energy of the dance, her adored hobby fast became a full time job.
Having traveled the country to learn from the best, Julee now travels herself, teaching the dances of the swing era. Known for her dynamic styling and musicality, she has been a featured instructor at many workshops across the country and around the world.
In September of 2001, Julee was asked to join the cast of "Swing! The Original Broadway Musical" and toured nationally from Sept 2001 to February 2002. After completing the tour, she was asked to return to NYC to train the next touring cast of "Swing!".
Back in Chicago, Julee has formed a collective of the most talented dancers and teachers in the city. The troupe teaches and performs Swing and Lindy Hop at schools, festivals, corporate and city sponsored events. Julee and members of Big City Swing have also been seen on stage and screen...
