Five years ago, a 30-year-old man walked into a one-room Amish schoolhouse and opened fire, killing five girls and himself. In a decision that shocked the world, the Amish community later that same day forgave his crime and offered aid to his grieving widow. The Amish Project is a fictional exploration of that shooting and the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake. In it, ATC Ensemble member Sadieh Rifai will play the role of the show's seven characters, including the gunman and two of his young victims. Originally staged in 2008 at the New York International Fringe Festival, The Amish Project opened Off-Broadway in 2009, at which time The New York Times called it, "a remarkable piece of writing."

This is an extremely moving one-woman play that should cause us all to rethink our approach to dealing with those who treat us unjustly. The actress did an excellent job of switching among the half dozen or so characters. In a small theater setting, she was adept at captivating the audience, bringing us all into the experience.

There seem to be many good restaurants in the area. We parked on the street and walked to Cafe 28, a delighful Cuban & Mexican restaurant.

I was so impressed with the actor; an outstanding performance. The writing was obviously superb but the actor carried it out to the max. I cannot imagine the stress and hard work that was involved prior to her performances. I hope to see her again in something.

About the best play I have ever seen. Awesome, and I don't use that word very much.

Phenomenal writing and acting. The actress really inhabited 7 characters and seamlessly moved from one to another, all the while carrying the Amish theme. The writing is profound and really helps one explore moral-ethical issues around horrific human events. I kept feeling that this is a much more worthy spiritual experience than many religious gatherings. I hope as many people see it as possible.
